If Celestials experience a great surge of emotion (anger, love, fear, etc), a bit of that emotion might stay in that place on Earth. Like, a battlefield may be have a resonance of fear or anger. A place were Celestial lovers hid might have a residue of love, and these emotional points would affect Humans. A Human walking across the same battlefield may be gripped with a momentary sense of fear. Or, perhaps, simply feel paranoid for an instant.
What do you all think of this? How long do you think the emotions would last? How strong would they be to a Human or even a Terrapyre? Would a Terrapyre be able to track a Celestial this way? What are the ramifications?

I think there would be variables that would effect the duration and intensity of the lingering after-effects. The older the Celestial, or the more powerful, the strong the after-effect. It would balance out the universe in some ways. Of course, the more intense the original emotion, the more intense the after-effect as well.
To Humans, I think these after-effects would be very manipulative and overpowering. Not just like scent in the air or gently lingering feelings but almost like subliminal messages... and not gentle ones.
For Terrapyres, the feelings would also be powerful (after all, Terrapyres are just 3D like Humans) but they would also probably be able to figure out that the feelings came from a Celestial and that would certainly sway them to behave.
I really love this idea because of the simple truth that Celestials passionate, powerful individuals. It just makes sense that they would leave a residue of some sort that both Humans and Terrapyres could pick up.

I was thinking that very same thing, Matthew. Like places in the jungle that have a very strong feeling. There are no signs of anything but it is clear that something has fought and died there. The circle of life unbroken, invisible but just as so visible to anyone who cares to still their own mind and actually see the world around them.
My sister Estella, I think, would not be able to walk where Celestials have left these trails. She is so sensitive to resonance. It makes her a very good hunter but also it can be disorienting. She hates it quite a bit. I think it is amazing and beautiful but I do not tell her so.

Oh, definitely! This reminds me of Chariklo, you know? Professions that are mysterious and wonderful and integrated into normal society, but not really... recognizable, you know? Like the same street performer like this could be performing for decades and no one would *really* notice. Like Chariklo in the circus. Or living statues in New Orleans. I think it's haunting and beautiful.

I think what amazed and captivated me about these is the scale of the limbs. I always see Ornate Form as human-sized. But what is size to a 4D being (even one in a 3D world)? They are far more boundless than we are. I like the truly alien and otherworldly sense of these beings. They are, at once, powerful and fragile.

Okay. So... Celestials don't age outside of the 4D, right? So if a Celestial had a child on earth, the child wouldn't age? Could they even have children on earth? Would the fetus grow?

What I know on this subject:
1. Celestials age in morph (this comes from "Reciprocity"). 2. Whether or not the fourth dimension of a Celestial is visible on Earth (a 3D world) they are still 4D creatures and can interact with 4D objects/elements (like poks). 3. The womb/growing pouch of a Celestial is not unlike a pok. It is more 4D than other parts of a Celestial and so the child grows/ages. 4. Dimred children age (obviously). 5. I would think that 4D children (unaffected) would be returned to Hom if accidentally born on the battlefield that is Earth.
Just my thoughts

I'm working with some ECG booster tonight and thought this might be helpful. These are what a few animals on Earth are called by Celestials who have acquired them as morphs. (The Celestials use the Earth Latin for the animal because that's Earth's categorical scientific lexicon. On Hom they probably have a number designation.)
Lupus -- Wolf Corvus - Raven Saturniidae -- Moth Felis Cattus -- Cat Arachnid -- Spider Columba -- Dove Chondrichthyes -- Shark Falco -- Falcon Fenix -- Phoenix Panthera Onca -- Jaguar

Jenn,
The way Celestials catalogue their information is by number designation. This makes the information easily filed and retrieved in the Great Archive. I'd imagined that the number system would be something like this: world#:date (month-year):item number. So it would look like 8776:05-39:1259.
This is certainly open for debate. For example, how does the Celestial calendar work? Their seasons are similar, but they have only 6 "months" for our 12 (2 of our months = 1 of theirs). What year are they in? Are worlds catalogued by solar system? Galaxy? It would probably be helpful to figure this out so we could have some kind of baseline to start with.

I agree, Cris. This is something we need to consider. I don't think that the Celestials would use a date in the designation (too much of a "micro" detail) but I think the planet's designation (which would be a code to its location by light years), and the item's number (which would probably reference its genetic code and item category type -- plant, animal, mineral, etc). I think if someone "looked up" an item, they could pull it up by this designator and then access a profile for it with all the micro details like date collected, Missionary, their Province, field notes. Would this work?
I just wanted to share the Latin because, once on Earth, using the morphs, it had been decided a very long time ago (the Latin is on many Beta cards and all of the current cards that have animals in their titles) they would use the "native" word for the creatures -- much like Ganymede was doing in "Immortal Dreaming." Latin is considered (even in non-Latin based language speaking countries) to be the "universal scientific language" so, to me at least, it seemed to make sense that it be used (as opposed to the Spanish word for hawk or the Japanese word for bear). Hope this makes sense. I wasn't trying to make up this rule out of the blue. I had the time and I compiled a list and just wanted to share the reference. If a Celestial was talking to another Celestial and wanted to be sure they didn't misunderstand each other, I can understand why they'd just use the more accurate number designation.
