Discuss Harbinger Angels here. Or start your own concise topic in the Others section.

There are six types of Angels in MG3K mythology. Several of them have been renamed as we approach National Edition launch but their roles remain relatively unchanged. As I posted on the sticky in this section, MG3K does not encourage stories that focus on Angels. The Angels (of any various type) play specific and hidden roles in the mythology and should not be over-used (or used at all) by authors from September 1, 2009, onward. To "get your angel on" and write about Angels some, post in the fan fiction section please.
The six types of Angels are:
Angels of the Lord: Messenger Angels Host Angels Fallen Angels
Angels of Lucifer: Harbinger Angels Minion Angels Risen Angels
Unlike Messenger Angels (see that thread) there is no chance that Harbinger Angels are entities unto themselves; they are extensions of Lucifer and they exist to serve him. There are six of them and they are constantly coming and going between Lucifer's realm and Earth to do his bidding. When Harbinger Angels interact with Humans, in truth, the Human is interacting with Lucifer himself. Harbinger Angels are immortal and ageless.
I'm not really interested in giving Lucifer a thread of his own as he should not be used as a character in the MG3K mythology. So let's cover the essentials here. In our mythology, Lucifer was (according to Terrapyre scripture) once the seventh Messenger Angel, who harbored a now-lost seventh Skill. Lucifer became dissatisfied with his lot in life (doing the Lord's bidding) and used his time on Earth (when sent there by the Lord) to sow discontent and lead Humans astray.
Whether the Lord or other Messenger Angels “caught” (obviously, being all-knowing, the Lord always knew... but whatev) Lucifer, we do not know, but he was caught and exiled from Heaven forever. Even worse! He was cast into a realm of unknowing with no sunlight and no moon or stars. This is not to say this realm was darkness or flames or whatever stereotype. It was a realm of unknowing, formless and without hope, love or companionship.
Also part of Lucifer's punishment was that he was forced to watch forever the Humans he had tried so hard to destroy and lead astray. The Lord did this because He believed that Humans would arise and triumph, living powerful and pure lives of selfless love, understanding, and unity. But, as centuries passed, the hatred, destructive ignorance, and other heinous behaviors of Humans fueled Lucifer until he was finally strong enough not to tear himself away from his eternal punishment as the perpetual watcher but to rip six single hairs from his head. These hairs became the Harbinger Angels, who are able to travel outside the unknown realm.
Personally, to be blunt, I imagine Lucifer as a great winged warrior chained by blood-red chains to a throne of bone. He is nude and his long auburn hair is curly (ringlets) and wild. He has no eye lids and the visions of Humanity he is bombarded with reflect across his eyes (projecting from some other dimension). Every link in his chains represents a promise he broke to the Lord, every false prayer or false word. His wings are not unlike those of the male (extremely aggressive) red wing blackbird.
An interesting fact: The Homidin word for “broken bond or broken promise” is lucifriel (loo-sa-freel).

On the topic of wings, Harbinger Angels have wings. They are always manifested and visible except when they are on Earth. Then, they are there but can be invisible if the angel so desires that. The wings are natural colors (any color found on a bird). Their wings eminate extreme cold whether visible or not and the feathers are sharp enough to cut flesh.
On the topic of Skills, Harbinger Angels each have one Skill (that means all six Skills are represented among the six Harbinger Angels).

Azazel (Lucifer) has the red wing black bird wings. Armaros has dominion in solving mysterious, resolving secrets, and working enchantments. Wings are Peregrine Falcon wings. Baraqijal has dominion in astrology and astronomy, science and occult. Cardinal wings. Kokabel has dominion in constellations, Human mythology. Dove wings. Ezeqeel has dominion in clouds and weather. Bluebird wings. Araqiel has dominion in earth and seasons. Golden-winged Warbler. Then, playing off Greek myth, we have Shamshiel and Sariel, who we rename Sarihiel, and make them an angel of two faces, with dominion in sun and moon, night and day. Cooper Hawk underside wings. How's that sound?

Question: Is the Warbler too dumb a name to use its wings? Should we swap it out for the Koel, Crow or Raven like Mik suggests on the Messenger Angel thread?
...
You know what? Let's do that. Let mix these up a little. How about:
Azazel (Lucifer) has the red wing black bird wings.
Armaros has dominion in solving mysterious, resolving secrets, and working enchantments. Wings are Peregrine Falcon wings.
Baraqijal has dominion in astrology and astronomy, science and occult. Raven wings.
Kokabel has dominion in constellations, Human mythology. Dove wings.
Ezeqeel has dominion in clouds and weather. Bluebird wings.
Araqiel has dominion in earth and seasons. Cardinal wings.

Ideas for Genders ...
Armaros: Lead. Female Baraqijal: Vanish. Male. Kokabel: Grace, Female Ezeqeel: Presence, Male Araqiel: Key. Female Sarihiel: Cloak. Male
Even though this may seem arbitrary at first glance, I *did* look at their dominions first. How does this seem?

It didn't seem arbitrary at all! Thank you so much, Cris. These are perfect. You... you really jump in, don't you, grrl? You, Summer and Angelo are like some kind of tag team maybe? LOL!

Jennifer? Summer tells me that Sarihiel was your idea? Would you describe him/her some? I was inspired by the Greek mythological figure Janus who is some retellings has two heads and others he has two faces. The idea was that Sarihiel has actually only one face but when he turns in 3/4 profile to the left, his face shifts, contorting into one visage, and when he turns 3/4 profile to the right, it becomes another. Almost like a hologram trading card. His center face would present the part of his personality that calm and almost neutral. His left face present the classic night parts of his personality -- darker, more mysterious, more cold. His right face would present the classic day aspects of his personality -- fiery, sharp, passionate. Just some small ideas about tweaking an angel or two

One last question. Do you want a Harbinger Angel to have *white* dove wings? Just wondering.
