Question about Companions in battle:
In the last version of the Sourcebook, there's mention of a nanobot inhaler to enhance reaction times, strength, etc. of Companions.
In more recent posts it seems that Terrapyres would train their own Companions how to fight. This makes more sense to me because a generic inhaler is never as good as one-on-one training from someone who knows your strengths and weaknesses.
I have to agree with EJ that a Companion training center is likely to be targeted by Celestials who want to damage Terrapyres in whatever ways they can. I think it would end badly. Perhaps at one time this was attempted, but it did end badly...
Could we come to some conclusions about the nanobot inhaler and how Companions are trained?
Thanks! Cris

I think most Terrapyres would train their own Human friends who wanted to step up to fight as Campanions. But I also think that a lot of Humans just kick butt all on their own. I mean... in my story in the Battle Anthology, none of my Humans are on 'bots, you know? I mean, they're Human. They *could* use the nanobot inhalers but they could also just be awesome all by themselves EJ

Okay, so I promised to write here in regards to my story, "A Game of Chance." In the story, I feature an organization run by humans for humans that work as Companions. The organization recruits and trains people and then basically hires people out for various jobs. This could be regular human jobs. These could be jobs as Companions. The leaders are obviously well aware of Celestials and take as many precautions against them as possible. (Though, honestly, as you read my story you'll see that they're not impenetrable.) I'm not sure, though, if every recruit knows or if they just know the economy is really bad and this is a way to make money. They compete against each other (the higher your rank, the higher your price). It's dead serious for the people involved. I placed my story in prime time.
As for how it breaks down, these were my original notes. To keep everything even, I wanted each faction to kind of go along with a skill. Not that these characters have that skill, of course. It's just sort of a theme. Also, each group was named after a breed of dog that is known for traits similar to the skill of the group:
The Pack
Seebeerskij-husky (runners) Grace Leader: Fox
Malinois-Belgian Shepherd Dog (investigators) Vanish Leader: Jackal
Ca de Bou-ancient warrior Bulldogs (fighters) Presence Leader: Dhole
Alsatian-german shepherd (messangers/spies) Cloak Leader: Coyote
Catahoula-Catahoulas (special abilities and assassins) Key Leader: Hyena
Lupus Clan--Wolves (Best member from each division) Lead Lycan (best of all), Fox, Jackal, Dhole, Coyote, Hyena
So my question: Do you think this is at all realistic? Would humans do this (on a large or small scale). For how long? This organization doesn't last outside of Prime Time. What about others? I can understand Terrapyres being unwilling to train large groups, but would humans looking to break into this world (even if all they know is that the organization hires out to wealthy contractors) do this?

I don't think Terrapyres would allow an organization to exist that was focused on training Companions, per say. Meaning, they would be very easy to penetrate and then any Companion out of that training ground would be suspect and all their training would be "radioed in" to the enemy to be countered.
However, an organization that trained fighters, private military, upper crust security, special secret ops stuff, etc, makes perfect sense. That Terrapyres might occasionally hire from such a group (for special missions) makes some sense. Overall, for safety and security, I think Terrapyres would only trains their dearest and nearest friends and lovers. But extreme measures might call for hired help being brought in.
I think Humans would come to an organization like this to prepare themselves for a life as a Companion. Like if they'd met a Terrapyre lover or friend and wanted to be able to truly assist him or her.
A good idea for a Prime Time organization. Especially with Neroian Nights and all the other extreme turns during Prime Time.

EJ, that was a very good breakdown and spin. I've liked this darker side of Launa's writing and I was literally just talking with Cris this evening about how it might be able to be worked into the mythology. This is an excellent "fix" and it makes a lot of sense. Thank you.
