Jennifer, I may not have followed everything you posted and, like several others here, I thank Gille for the funny and comprehensive deconstruction, but I certainly hope you won't "dumb-down" your future posts. I am impressed by you, Jennifer, and I like being impressed; I don't get that much at my day job.
Leigh, I think that Cris may have been asking about that critical launch sequence. How would we launch the wisps into orbit/low orbit? How would we get them outside of Hom's gravity?
Though I think that Celestials are magical creatures, I would love to somehow see starwisps and remote viewing married for use by these "Visionaries" with Key.

This seems like the place to be Can I help at all? If Celestials have only green energy (like solar and wind), they could launch slow and steady with space elevators. Their mastery of all things itty bitty (Gille... you slay me) would ensure they'd have mastered this tech which relies so heavily on nanocarbon ribbons. I don't think any (livable) planet could produce enough wind and solar to power the whole planet but what if those cool quantum machanical starwisp things gathered solar winds and solar rays and passed the charged energy back to Hom across a kind of universal relay network? That would be enough to run the planet and space elevators, too. Alyson

Gille: I love you. You are the best bff in the world. Mira: You're very insightful I was making a exception for Eliena and Lynor and I didn't like it. I like your idea much better. Let's do that! Leigh: Thank you for getting back to Cris about her question. As for compiling and recompiling in the MG3K universe, the restriction was actually against faster than physical transportation on Earth. We wanted nothing to be faster than Warps (as even Warps are limited to line-of-sight jumps). Mike: I promise not to dumb anything down for anyone As for Visionaries and remote viewing, what do you think of the idea below? Alyson: I adore how you've taken Leigh's starwisps a step further and I "vote" for that amazing relay network to gather power for Hom and also... ...what if the starwisp network was bionetic and worked to extend the remote viewing that Celestials with wretton and Key ability could visually see things. The starwisps could send back all kinds of information, including what elements were found on what worlds. A combination of metaphysics and hard science. Plus the idea of tens of thousands of self-replicating, delicate, tiny, beautiful and almost living starwisps off exploring the universe and sending information back to Hom is just very wonderful to me. Now on to other matters. I think the starwisp network would allow energy to be gathered that would run whatever would be needed on Hom. There could be three flavors of starwisps. Flavor 1 would gather energy and send it back. Flavor 2 would explore the universe and send information back including which planets had which elements and which planets were about to be in danger. Flavor 3 would be "sleeper" wisps that simply spread out across the universe to serve as boost points for the Portal system. This way there is no degrading risk to Celestials. But what about when Celestials need *big* power? Like to make quantum machines or charge/create Portals? Is there a *big* green energy? Uh... not really. But there is a theoretical one! Quantum energy built around protons. There is only one primordial proton that either self-destructed at creation or exists in a single-dimensional state somewhere. But everything in the universe contains protons that are twins (replicas) of that first primordial proton and somehow draw initial energy from that first and best proton. Every proton replica has two faces. Two faces of the same particle. The social status of the proton's faces is always changing, moving, attracting, and creating a constant level of mass and energy. (The inverse of the proton is the theoretical antiproton with two faces which repeal and create antimatter.) The proton, a fundamental elementary particle in nature, is a quantum object – it cannot be divided into smaller parts. The proton is the very basic elementary “brick” of the material substance of the universe. Quantum means: “unique”, “indivisible”, without parts, without internal composition or structure. A quantum material object can only be a two-dimensional formation. Non-quantum material objects – composed by atoms, molecules, and other bigger material formations – are three-dimensional bodies. They have parts, spots, points, or zones in their volume, which can be differentiated from each other. Why is this important? Because if elements have mass (three or more dimensions) they create friction. Friction eventually wears energy down, and slows down all forces (which is why nothing... 3D or more...) can travel faster than the speed of light. But protons aren't 3D. They are utterly without friction. They are the *only* true perpetual motion machines in the universe. And all the energy they make with all that switching around, spreads beautifully and uniformly across their tiny little spatial surfaces. Go ahead and use that energy. It will always replenish. Actually... even as you use it, it will simply remain "fully-charged." The energy created by a proton is a constant and eternal. So... Celestials could use quantum energy to run their domed cities, their quantum machines (like Portals), massive bionetic machines like the Great Archive, etc. Jennifer

Gillian posted:
Jennifer doesn't mention what would set off the photon. I don't think this is a "let a miracle happen" thing. I think it's probably something really, really simple and so she thought we'd all know it already. Someone should ask her.
Celestials genetics are coded into every Portal so only Celestials can complete the pendant circuit and trigger it to unfold. They start off the whole reaction by covering the hole in the donut. How does this activate the proton? Someone should ask her.
I found these answers apparent in Jennifer's original post, actually. There is a seal over the "hole of the donut" that only Celestial genetics can break or dissolve. The easiest and most prevalent trigger of a photon is an oxygen atom. Simply breaking the vacuum seal would trigger the whole process to begin.
I have a question. Why wouldn't everyone in a Missionary party of a squad of soldiers wear a Portal pendant? Wouldn't that be safer?

I agree, Olivia. I assumed also this. Thank you for posting it.
Regard to the lodestone:
The lodestone seems to be something really symbolic because of the Maria. Maybe a lodestone set into each Portal could be the way that the on-planet specific landing spot could be determined. Maybe the reflectors could pass the lasers through veins or the bosons through veins in the archway and through a lodestone keystone that had been set to the harmonics of the location. The pathways carved into the lodestone would differ for every location.

Mira,
I think that sounds like a great idea. That would certainly be an important part of the overall mythology and we do need to work out how this would be handled. I say--go for it!
Gille,
What can I say? You rock. Thank you so much for doing this. I really appreciate it. I was also a bit lost. I think my eyes actually glazed over at one point and I started daydreaming about chocolate.

I think I should be more clear. I meant to post that I, also, found these answers apparent in Jennifer's post. I did not mean to say that every member in a Celestial team should wear a pendant.
I think this is not done because they are probably hard to make requiring quantum energy instead of starwisp/solarwisp energy. Also, they are so very advanced of technology that I do not think Celestials would want to have extras everywhere.

Luz has asked that we start to nail down some of this tech so that writers can begin their work.
Alyson said: If Celestials have only green energy (like solar and wind), they could launch slow and steady with space elevators. Their mastery of all things itty bitty (Gille... you slay me) would ensure they'd have mastered this tech which relies so heavily on nanocarbon ribbons.

Does there need to be more discussion on this or can we vote on it?
Jenn said: I think the starwisp network would allow energy to be gathered that would run whatever would be needed on Hom. There could be three flavors of starwisps. Does there need to be more discussion about this or is it ready for a vote?
Finally, given Jennifer's post on protons and quantum mechanics which concludes " So... Celestials could use quantum energy to run their domed cities, their quantum machines (like Portals), massive bionetic machines like the Great Archive, etc."
Does this make sense to everyone or do we need to discuss it further?
Thank you! Cris

Thanks! I'm going to give this a couple more days to let some of the other folks get a chance to read their mail and weigh in. Then, if no additional discussion is needed, we'll put it to a vote on the weekend.

Cris, I would go ahead and post the vote. Luz did a good job of leading the way in discussion right on the first few vote threads. I think your summaries are perfect for the vote. Just have Brianne include your summaries after the poll. No need to give us all time to weigh in like this. Save yourself the work, grrl!
