Welcome everyone!
The same rules of the forum apply to the RPGs. However, we do also have a basic format that needs to be followed that will help both new and expert online gamers follow the adventure and step in at any time.
There are three topics to be found here:
1. Questions for the Game Masters
Post here if you have a (out of character) question to one of the game masters running an adventure. Put the name of the adventure in the subject field.
2. Charactor Portfolio
Post here if you want to give background information (out of character) about a character you're playing in an adventure.
3. Along with the two threads above, you'll see different campaigns listed in the "MG3K Online Role-Playing" section. At a glance, you'll know what adventures are up and running.
To start your own adventure, post a setting and/or a basic goal. Include some characters (or not). When first starting a new adventure, in the subject field of your first post make sure to write:
"Title of Adventure" Campaign
Obviously, "Title of Adventure" is replaced with your title. After players start playing (or even before then) you can post additional posts in your own adventure by using this subject head:
"Title of Adventure" (GM Post)
Only you will be able to post as the GM (game master) for that adventure and you can post as much or as little as you like. You can have it suddenly start raining, or you can have an APC show up (see below). Please don't take control of a player's character, however.
As for playing an adventure, there are no OOC (out of character) posts or comments allowed from players within the adventure thread.
To jump into an adventure as a player, go right ahead! Make sure your subject field says:
"Title of Adventure" (Character Name, Race)
So if the adventure you want to join is called "On the Waterfront," for instance, then you might type: "On the Waterfront" (Buffy, Human) or "On the Waterfront" (Jared, Terrapyre).
You can post short or long posts, it doesn't matter. What does matter, however, is that you do not describe actions taken by another player's character. For instance, your character can punch another character in the nose but you can't say he ducks or hits you back. Your character can make a joke, but don't say whether or not another player's character laughs. It's just like real life; you can't control what others do.
Now here's a fun trick:
You can introduce APCs, All Players' Characters. APC can be controlled by anyone--you, other players or even the game master. They are never named in the subject field. They are great wild cards. Here's an example post:
Subject: "Concert Night" (E.J., Human)
Post: The sexy, leather-clad hotty killed the engine of her bike and the roar died unnoticed. The concert was underway and rock 'n' roll crashed from the hall's wide open doors like tsunamis of sound. E.J. glanced up at the starry sky and took a deep breath of the... interesting... city air.
The slender man on the back of E.J. motorcycle peeled off his helmet and tossed his shoulder length hair. He was rugged and handsome, early sixties, but, as a Terrapyre, he looked barely over forty. He was most certainly in his prime.
"Now, remember, you can't stay out past midnight!" Poulon admonished. "And no going home with some strange... girl... or grrl... or guy!"
E.J. rolled her eyes. "Okay, Dad! Gimme a break!"
* * *
So, in that very witty example, if you were another player in the "Concert Night" adventure, you would know that you couldn't post anything about the character E.J. doing anything but you could approach her, say something to her, think something about her, etc. However, the "Poulon" character is an APC and you can have him do anything you want! (Hi, Dad! I love you!) You cannot, however, make "Poulon" your own exclusive character. So your post can include "Poulon" but he can't be your only character. Here's another example. This one posted by you, another player coming to the adventure after the post above was posted:
Subject: "Concert Night" (Pahmela, Celestial)
Post: Her powers were not any where near full strength as the Neutral Hour was still eight hours away, but Pahmela the Wicked, Elder Celestial of the Eighth Order, peered evilly from the shadows of a crumbling low-rent co-op. Tonight would be the night. Even with limited abilities she would risk it. She would kidnap the young human named E.J. and use her capture as leverage to somehow sway the alluring Terrapyre Poulon to her bidding. She took half a step forward...
Still on the back of the motocycle, Poulon lifted his face to the wind. What was that strange and... interesting... perfume?
* * *
Fun, eh? Let's dive in! Got questions about the rules? Post them in the "Questions for the Game Masters" thread and they'll get answered by me.
Oh, hey, one last rule, okay? Turn off your signature block when posting, okay? It kinda breaks into the adventure when a Terrapyre quotes Hello Kitty
Thanks all and have fun.
