There are six types of Angels in MG3K mythology. Several of them have been renamed as we approach National Edition launch but their roles remain relatively unchanged. As I posted on the sticky in this section, MG3K does not encourage stories that focus on Angels. The Angels (of any various type) play specific and hidden roles in the mythology and should not be over-used (or used at all) by authors from September 1, 2009, onward. To "get your angel on" and write about Angels some, post in the fan fiction section please.

The six types of Angels are:

Angels of the Lord:
Messenger Angels
Host Angels
Fallen Angels

Angels of Lucifer:
Harbinger Angels
Minion Angels
Risen Angels

In most of the summaries of the MG3K brand, Fallen Angels (see the Fallen Angel thread) and other “Angels” are mentioned. These other Angels (simple called Angels in the summaries) are Messenger Angels. In our mythology, Mary, the mother of Christ, caught Christ's tears in an ordinary goblet. She carried that goblet with her and set it in her garden where she mourned for her son, her own tears falling to the cup. After Christ resurrected and Ascended, that goblet became infused with an incredible transformative, transcending power. A power that encompassed a mortal mother's love for her son, the love of a believer for his Savior, the truth of divinity and of the Lord, now then forever. It ceased to be a goblet and became the Grail.

No one is certain (except perhaps Maria and Eris... and they aren't sharing) exactly when Messenger Angels came and took the Grail and no one knows whether they were commanded to do so by the Lord. But the Grail was taken by these Angels and thrown into the slipstream of space-time. We all know what happened to it then – appearing only for one hour at dawn and dusk on Earth, spending every other moment (sometimes for a few seconds, sometimes for days) descending (“Dropping”) on other worlds throughout the cosmos.

There are six Messenger Angels. They exist to serve the Lord and they were never Humans. They go to Earth to deliver divine messages for the Lord and anything He bids them. They are incapable of disagreeing with the Lord. Some theorize that Messenger Angels are extensions of Him, though this argument contradicts the truth that the Lord loves His Human children, and Messenger Angels view Humans with some disregard and very little interest. Messenger Angels are immortal and ageless. Each Messenger Angel is a master of one of the six Immortal Skills and each one has a first name. They have massive wings like natural birds, each one a different tone.

More on the topic of wings, Messenger Angels have wings. They are always manifested and visible except when they are on Earth. Then, they are there but can be invisible if the angel so desires that. Their wings emanate warmth whether visible or not and the feathers are so soft that they comfort any fear or sorrow should the feather touch flesh.

I haven't decided on names or colors, yet, Cris, but I would be open to building that as a community here. I know I want three male and three female. And I know I want Gabriel to be one of the males and have pale wings that are like a classic dove. What others do you think? Anyone like to throw ideas around?

The tasks that these angels do are limited to how much direct interaction God wants to have with Humans (and other creatures on Earth). I mean, they might deliver messages, warnings, visions. They might stop a lion from eating Daniel. Things of that nature.

I found this information recently while doing research on angels. Maybe it will help?:

The earliest reference to a system of seven archangels as a group appears to be in Enoch I (the Book of Enoch) which is not part of the Jewish Canon, where they are named as Michael, Gabriel, Raphael, Uriel, Raguel, Zerachiel and Remiel. While this book today is non-canonical in most Christian Churches, it was explicitly quoted in the New Testament (Letter of Jude 1:14-15) and by many of the early Church Fathers. The Ethiopian Orthodox Church to this day regards it to be canonical.

In the late 5th to early 6th century , Pseudo-Dionysius gives them as Michael, Gabriel, Raphael, Uriel, Chamuel, Jophiel, and Zadkiel.

The earliest Christian mention is by Pope Saint Gregory I who lists them as Michael, Gabriel, Raphael, Uriel (or Anael), Simiel (or Samael), Oriphiel and Zachariel.

The other referenance I found is from www.globalight.com.au/archangels.html, which is a site dedicated to practitioners of Seichim. I know it's not based in scripture as much as a healing practice, but I liked how the angels were broken down and the information about their hebrew names I found helpful:

ANGEL OF PROTECTION
Archangel: Michael
Element: Fire

Ask him for: freedom from fear and self doubt, strengthening your faith, perfection of your soul, protection from physical and spiritual dangers, inspiration for leaders, improvement of government.

ANGEL OF ILLUMINATION
Archangel: Jophiel
Colour: Yellow
Ask him for: wisdom, illumination, understanding, connection to your Higher Self, help in absorbing information, freedom from addictions, dissolution of pride and narrow mindedness, exposure of wrongdoing in government and corporations, help in fighting pollution and cleaning up our planet.

ANGEL OF LOVE
Archangel: Chamuel
Colour: Pink
Ask her for: love, compassion, mercy, creativity, dissolution of feelings of selfishness, self-dislike, self-condemnation, and low self-esteem; protection from malice, slander and misunderstanding; inauguration of new friendships and relationships; repairing of damaged relationships; finding a suitable job, locating lost objects, healing of racial and ethnic tension.

ANGEL OF GUIDANCE
Archangel: Gabriel
Element: Water
Colour: Aqua
Ask him for: guidance in creating your spiritual life, revelation of your life's plan and purpose; dissolution of discouragement; joy, happiness and fulfillment; help in establishing discipline and order in your life; organisation of your emotional, mental and physical environment; help in organising peace-keeping operations, distribution of food and medical assistance; relief for victims of natural disasters.

ANGEL OF HEALING
Archangel: Raphael
Element: Air
Colour: Blue
Ask him for: wholeness, vision, spiritual insight, inspiration of truth, healing of body, mind and spirit; inspiration for the study and practice of music, mathematics, science and both traditional and alternative medicine; meeting of physical needs such as food, clothing, shelter, tool of your trade; repairing of rifts between nations; healing of those injured on battlefield, inspiration for new cures for diseases.

ANGEL OF PEACE
Archangel: Uriel
Element: Earth
Colour: Green & Ochre
Ask her for: inner peace, tranquility of spirit, untangling of knots of fear and anger in your psyche, renewal of hope, peaceful resolution of problems in personal, social and professional relationships: help in creating a harmonious environment for nurturing creativity and growth; inspiration and help for nurses, doctors, teachers, judges, public servants and all who serve others;
ending of war, bringing of peace, promotion of brotherhood understanding, manifestation of divine justice in courtrooms and between nations.

ANGEL OF JOY
Archangel: Tzadkiel
Colour: Violet
Ask him for: soul-freedom, happiness, joy, forgiveness, justice, mercy, dissolution of painful memories and negative traits; tolerance, diplomacy, inspiration for scientists, engineers, architects, actors and performers; dissolution of memories of strife between nations and ethnic groups, inspiration for the creative negotiation and writing of laws, regulations, fiscal and economic policies, trade and peace agreements.

Angel, you might want to stick with the word of the Ethiopian Orthodox Church as the oldest Christian church. The Book of Enoch would be a good inclusion in the Living Word.

Thank you all. This is great information to work with. I think we can begin to sketch our these amazing creatures now.

As Angelo mentioned, we have established in the MG3K universe that the Ethiopian Orthodox Church (as the Terrapyre Jared will attest) is a good "Human" institution to turn to. So yes, the Book of Enoch (we'll just rename it Enoch) should be part of the Terrapyre's Living Word.

This would give us Michael, Gabriel, Raphael, Uriel, Raguel, Zerachiel and Remiel. Now, right away we know that one of these angels has to go away because the position of the seventh angel is Lucifer in the MG3K universe. We also know that we want Gabriel and that he has dove-like wings. After deciding which six of these angels get to stay, we need to create bios for each one that look like this:

Name: Gabriel
Wings: White and cream, like a dove
Presides over messages/missions purtaining to: Births, issues of Human mortality, time, interpersonal relations between Humans.

That does make sense, EJ. Maybe, to make the task of creating them easier, we could start by listing the seven types of wings (not who has them, just the seven types you'd like to see ) -- we already have the dove wings and the red wing blackbird wings.

From there we could list the seven types of tasks (again, not who just what) that you'd want represented. For instance, there might be an angel in charge of all things war and soldiers. Another in charge of tasks regarding sacred texts and sacred places.

Most of this post is from my dad. Though he is retired now, this is his passion and always will be. A lot of this I just typed while he spoke to me. Jennifer called Angel with some worries and then Angel spoke to Sunshine and Sunshine handed me her palmtop, signed in, and said, "Help." I called my dad on my cell and here's the result:

I think I might be able to help things along with the angels -- Messenger type and Harbinger type. Since, from the description of the Holy Grail, it is clear that MG3K takes creative leaps from a place of facts, let me propose this with a foundation in 1 Enoch (Enoch who was the great-grandfather of Noah and the son of Jared) and other apocrypha and deuterocanonical apocrypha:

1 Enoch was written in Ge'ez (the language of the Ethiopian imperial court), with Aramaic fragments from the Dead Sea Scrolls and a few Greek and Latin fragments. It is the earliest writing that speaks directly on such things as angel/human (Angel/Human) offspring.

In 1 Enoch, Nephilim are the children of Fallen Angels, like Terrapyres. These Fallen Angels were also called Grigori and Watchers (supposedly sent to Earth either to watch over Humans or cast to Earth because they were watching over Humans). In the Ethiopian Orthodox belief there were 200 of these Watchers under the leadership of Shemyaza. There were many chiefs under Shemyaza, including Azazel, Shamshiel, Ezeqeel, Kokabel, Sariel, Baraqijal, Armaros, and Araqiel.

From 1 Enoch, "Azazel taught men to make swords, and knives, and shields, and breastplates, and made known to them the metals of the earth and the art of working them, and bracelets, and ornaments, and the use of antimony, and the beautifying of the eyelids, and all kinds of costly stones, and all colouring tinctures.

"Shemyaza taught enchantments, and root-cuttings.

"Armaros the resolving of enchantments.

"Baraqijal taught astrology.

"Kokabel the constellations.

"Ezeqeel the knowledge of the clouds.

"Araqiel the signs of the earth.

"Shamshiel the signs of the sun, and Sariel the course of the moon."

These things were not meant to come to mankind at this point in time and also these angels were all having relations and making offspring with human women. Shemyaza and Azazel were seen as the worst offenders and many cultures feel that Azazel became the entity we now call Lucifer (Azazel means impudent or showing strength to God as in arrogance.)

God decides enough and sends some of His holy angels who are untainted by time on Earth to go deal with the 200 Grigori. These are Uriel, Raphael, Raguel, Michael, Zerachiel, Gabriel, and Remiel. Interesting that "el" means of God.

In 1 Enoch, "Uriel, one of the holy angels, who is over the world and over Tartarus.

"Raphael, one of the holy angels, who is over the spirits of men.

"Raguel, one of the holy angels who takes vengeance on the world of the luminaries.

"Michael, one of the holy angels, to wit, he that is set over the best part of mankind and over chaos.

"Zerachiel, one of the holy angels, who is set over the spirits, who sin in the spirit.

"Gabriel, one of the holy angels, who is over Paradise and the serpents and the Cherubim.

"Remiel, one of the holy angels, whom God set over those who rise."

By twisting these existing mythologies (or facts, depends) we could build this MG3K myth:

God sent 200 Watchers. They got too close to Humans. They started to give them secrets they shouldn't have. God wiped out most of them (and their children) but forgave Azazel for some reason (maybe he made really beautiful babies). Of the lead chiefs, God spared six (pick six interesting "teachers" from Shamshiel, Ezeqeel, Kokabel, Sariel, Baraqijal, Armaros, and Araqiel -- see what they "taught" above) and thrust them into space-time, in a state of unliving and undying, one eye open and one eye closed, forever falling in terror.

Meanwhile, Azazel joined the holy untainted angels (pick six from this list -- Uriel, Raphael, Raguel, Michael, Zerachiel, Gabriel, and Remiel.-- by seeing what they are in charge of above) and bidded his time.

God made the proclamation then that any angels who ever got too interested in Humans or questions what secrets should be revealed or not, would be deemed "Fallen" and thrown from Heaven.

The freefall angels wind up becoming Azazel/Lucifer's Harbinger angels and the holy untainted angels wind up as your Messenger angels and everything starts with scripture. Nothing new age and choices are more clear.

Hoping this is helpful and not too pushy.

To stay within MG3K mythology, make the untainted angels these:

Uriel, bluebird wings, dominion over animals and the Earth itself.

Raphael, cooper hawk wings, dominion over the spiritual state of Humans.

Raguel, cardinal wings, dominion, often vengeance, over the world of luminaries (powerful creatures other than Humans).

Michael, golden-winged warbler, dominion over the best acts of Humans (such as peace) and over the truth of chaos.

Gabriel, dove wings, dominion over Paradise, Host Angels, and divine messages.

Remiel, peregrine falcon, dominion over those who will Ascend.

Additional "dominions" could be fleshed out later... or now

(I'll go post in Harbingers now. They actually don't have to be condensed any because we need six and if EJ wants to go with Angelo's proposal, then Shemyaza is dead already. We're still one angel too many... but I have a cool idea from Jennifer *wink*)
