Magnetic Field Powered Vehicle. TW Transporter is a single seater magnetic field powered concept vehicle. The vehicle has two wheels and includes an on-board electricity powered mechanism and an electric engine that can generate a magnetic filed to run the large wheels. The rims of the wheel are suspended over superconducting fluids where the shifting magnetic field creates the required motion to propel the car. Thus, the motion and power generation is nearly noiseless, smooth and green. The seat of this vehicle offers the driver a balanced position in a cockpit for easy operation of the vehicle. There is a port at the back of the cockpit through which the driver will enter or leave the vehicle.

This hoverboard uses high performance hovercraft technology to lift a 200 pound (90.6 kilo) rider one inch above the ground. A 6-horsepower 4-stroke gasoline engine spins a multi-bladed propeller to force air under the craft. A special flexible skirt (which acts like an air bag) is used to help trap air under the craft to increase efficiency. There is a slight gap between the flexible skirt and the surface while it’s hovering. When hovering, the craft is virtually friction free and only requires a small thrust to move at high speeds. The craft hovers best over smooth flat surfaces. You can make one for yourself for a bout $500.00. Or you can co-opt Dad’s leaf blower because that’s the basic technology. Plans located here: www.futurehorizons.net/hoverboard.htm. The Airboard has an electric starter and runs on a four-stroke gasoline engine. Simply start it up, hop on board, adjust the throttle and away you go. By using varying degrees of weight transfer, the Airboard can be made to respond in different ways--sharp or slow turns, 360 degree turns and sliding turns are all possible. As your skills increase so does the range of exciting maneuvers you can perform. The Airboard accelerates quickly to a top speed of 15 mph (25 kph). The Airboard is controlled by two levers on the handle bar: One for lift (engine speed) and one for thrust. By leaning back a small thrust wheel at the rear of the vehicle can be brought into contact with the ground to assist acceleration. When flying the rider simply leans to the left to turn to the left, leans to the right to turn to the right. Stopping is attained by either a sharp turn or letting go of the controls. This one is already available.

MagLevAir. The trio of designers Leonie Lawniczak, Deniz Örs and Georg Milde have created a concept that would provide magnetic assistance for planes during take-offs. The MagLevAir will function much like the catapult on aircraft carriers; only, the system will use magnets to do the job. A separate shuttle will aid in launching the aircraft, but it will remain grounded. Its use, however, will mean that the aircraft has to carry less fuel, thus allowing it to remain lighter, or have a longer range. For a system that takes off this way, the average aircraft speeds are a big no, and supersonic speeds are so out of vogue. The designers see the aircraft having a scramjet engine, so think hypersonic.

www.howstuffworks.com/hybrid-car.htm. A General Information Site: www.hybridcars.com/Jenn notes: I rode today in an electric/gasoline hybrid vehicle. For those of you who still think (as I did) that purely electric cars are far off or would have to plug in and recharge all night long for ten hours of street legal driving, let me just share: The car was silent. The electric battery charged via traction technology -- it charged when the wheels turned. The car only used gasoline to power the heater, AC, wipers, etc. with a tiny amount running the electric engine itself. The gas was there in case the battery died and and the battery power registered on the dash. Note: The battery charge stayed on full or one bar below full the entire day, even in stop and go traffic. This was not a prototype car. It was my little sister's car MPG? Her average 58. A few tweaks and this baby would be fully electric. Add cities that are on grid and you've got zero gasoline dependency. Other vehicle note: I've spoken with Cris about the strange pitfalls of bio-diesel, diesel made from corn or soy. Namely, city rats find it very tasty. Just ask my brother in law. Rats feasted on all his fuel lines. Cris and I wondered why the car manufacturer didn't consider this. What we didn't understand was that any car that runs on diesel can take bio-diesel. Manufacturers make them to run on standard diesel which would kill a rat so they don't think to protect their cars from rat nibbles. If David wants to continue to fuel using bio-diesel, his mechanic suggested simply swamping out all his lines with metal ones.

Giving Kawasaki a run for it's money? Buell Blade is a motorcycle concept with various innovative features for both performance and visual aspects and is designed concentrating on American tradition. This bike comprises a classic V-Twin engine that has made this bike a powerful vehicle on road. This sports bike will create a new riding experience with its unique wheel that has been designed without any spokes or rims. The Buell Blade motorcycle features a rear suspension system integrated with the bike’s core design and an internal drive train to make it extraordinary. This bike has been designed to rule the streets of the future city transportation system.

Slimo. This one gets my vote for the weirdest design. Slimo is a concept public transportation system that is anticipated as a design for VW. Slimo is a one-seater pod specially designed for individual ease, includes a computer terminal for connectivity purposes and a bus-like chain can be formed by riding all these pods together. This feature will also be helpful for promotional activities like displaying a cohesive message across the surfaces of chain formed Slimos. This innovative design will certainly leave a brilliant impression among general users with its circular seating arrangement, open specious environment and extraordinary miniature tires. Here’s a link to the VW page with more information: www.carbodydesign.com/archive/2008/11/03-vw-slimo-concept/

SNAP: Personal Railroad Travel. The SNAP concept from designer Vít Bechynský is a concept for personal travel, though with a slight twist. While there are many concepts where such pods or personal mobility vehicles would gang up for traveling on the road, the SNAP concept puts them in a train-like configuration. Each of the vehicles has the ability to connect to the SNAP train, one after the other. Each vehicle can be removed from the train at specified locations, and passengers can speak to the pilot along the route and simply rest. This of course, as a great advantage for those traveling long distances, and it can greatly help refresh passengers for driving. Quite similar to Volvo’s idea of a “Car Train” convoy. But that’s not all for this concept, it can even convert to a two wheel motorbike, and has adjustable track width back wheels, and a large front wheel to go along. This, I want.

Cris, these are all fascinating shares! Thank you for posting them.
I think I like the look Buell Blade Motorcycle and the Snap the best. I can even see the Snap working as linked components on a smaller scale -- need a car that will accommodate a family? Just snap on extra Snaps!

I got to meet Eric Buell two years ago. He's an amazing guy with really Earth-shaking ideas (like running the accelerant through the frame). Harley ran Buell out of the general cycle business late in 2009 but Eric regrouped as the new Eric Buell Racing company. They design bikes only for racing now and professionally race them too. Eric is known as being wild and really marching to his own drummer. Even the company taglines are things like "sitting is not a sport -- bikes are meant to be hung off" and "ruthless is a way of riding." EJ A great blog I uncovered of future prototype bikes: future-motorcycles.com/

Cris, Mom says you're teasing Jennifer but just let me jump in, just in case. Buell Bikes simply cannot be beat but since October of last year, Harley, who owned them, closed the sub branch. Buell was founded by Erik Buell (not to nitpick, EJ, but it is Erik with a K... like me) in 1983 but had been owned by Harley since 1998 in a classic (and much hated by those of us who live and breathe Buell bikes) down-sizing.
Buell has never tried to be a consumer brand. Buell bikes are for hardcore racers on and off the track. To call a Buell racer a "c*****-rocket" like everyone calls other sport bikes would be like calling a Porsche a "compact."
Now Erik has made a come back by launching Erik Buell Racing and he's brought his cutting-edge ideas and wild spins on everything into world-level companionship races already. He's out from under Harley for this new endeavor and he's hotter than ever with ideas that smoke (like the Blade's spoke-less wheels).
In terms of what would PT Terrapyre be riding, it would depend on the individual, as always. Some kind of Kawayota fusion after a brand war would be a solid machine with a lot of variety and style. A Buell bike would only top that kind of firepower with twisted flexibility, strange perks, and sheer racing speed. But the flipside is that Buell would be harder to service and way more volatile.
Their official tag-line is actually, "Ruthless engineering." Erik is a master mechanical engineer as well as being a racer himself with a AMA license to back it up. He's designed and produced bikes with gas in the frames, oil tanks built into the swing arms, exhaust pipes that wrap the engine, and all kinds of wild balance gyros and brake assemblies.
If you've never seen a Buell in action... you just won't believe the stills. Riders wear inch-thick, hard rubber and carbonite knee pads because the bikes can lay so low on the inside turn that your calf is within a half inch of the asphalt.
I guess, in terms of Elijah riding a powerhouse, workhorse like these Kawayotas seems to be, makes a lot of sense to me. Maybe a street gang in PT might have Buell bikes. Or Elijah might think Buell bikes are beautiful and sexy. But they really are niche bikes... that can't be beat in their world.
