Discuss Elementals here. Or start your own concise topic in the Others section.

In many cultures and mythologies, Elementals are powerful entities who are associated with one of the basic elements: Earth, Air, Fire or Water. They are aware of Humans (and by extension Celestials and Terrapyres) in the same way they are aware of arcane creatures such as Green Men, but unless they are disturbed, are completely disinterested in other species. When angered, they are *extremely* destructive. They are very protective of their young, which are quite vulnerable, and will destroy anyone or anything--and all their friends and relatives to boot--that they perceive as a threat to their offspring.
Earth Elementals, for example, may cause cave-ins, mudslides, sinkholes (that actually pull things into them), etc.
Air Elementals would be responsible for such destructive events as tornados, dust storms and any event that would be precipated by something occurring in the atmosphere.
Fire Elementals cause events such as flash fires and forest fires, especially those that seem to have no discernible point of origin and burn unpredictably and seemingly out of control. A flash fire would just seem to *begin*--as in suddenly your house in engulfed in flames.
Water Elementals cause tsunamis, hurricanes and all water-related events. The 2004 tsunami in the Indian Ocean would be attributed to angry Water Elementals.
EJ, is this what you were thinking?

Also, are Elementals the same as Daemons? As in, has the name changed?

Cris, yes, you're right. I grew up with stories just like those! I found them kinda scary, too 8( I was thinking I'd reclaim the word into something a little less... spooky/powerful? I see MG3K Elementals as really just a lessor-known natural animal that used to be all about but were hunted or whatever over time (kinda like we're saying with dragons and stuff since Celestials coming to Earth long ago were able to sample these and can morph into them). I see them as kind of like sprites, I suppose. No bigger than a palm. Aligned with the four elements. In gaming terms I saw: Fire Elementals as Chaotic Earth Elementals as Neutral Air Elementals as Evil Water Elementals as Good Haven't given this one much thought because, again, I'd really rather they only be background filler. A way of reminding readers that the world is not *only* what they know... and that Immortals notice more stuff EJ P.S. Yep, Launa. Renamed and revised just like angels.

EJ Were the Elementals hunted to extinction or just to very small numbers? Also, are they also automatically aligned with Evil forces, for example, or can they be captured/manipulated etc., by those who wish to use their powers? I agree that making them a little less scary would be good Cris

Yeah, that was too confusing I think. Let's try this: They used to be seen commonly like butterflies. But now they're more like rare insects. Harder to find and instinctually hiding most of the time. In classic role-playing, alignments are: Lawful good -- You like law and order, and you try to obey the law at all times while working for good causes. Lawful neutral -- Whether the consequences are good or bad, all that matters to you is that the laws are obeyed. Lawful evil -- You work within the law to accomplish your own evil ends. You may be honorable, in the sense that you keep your word, but you are solely concerned with looking out for yourself. Neutral good -- You don't really care whether the law is obeyed or not; you're mostly concerned that the results are good. True neutral -- You don't care what happens, as long as balance is maintained and no one bothers you. Neutral evil -- You don't care what aeffect your actions have on others or how you fit into society, as long as you get what you want. Chaotic good -- You dislike law and society, but still try to do good. Chaotic neutral -- You try to sow disorder and chaos wherever you go, without any regard for good or evil. Chaotic evil -- You try to undermine society and order, while working to bring about your own evil agenda. Under this more easy-to-understand system, the different Elementals would be: Fire Elementals as Chaotic neutral Earth Elementals as True neutral Air Elementals as Chaotic evil Water Elementals as Neutral good Sound fun?
