Fiction reference: "Crusade" (an illustrated story in the Crusade Battle Anthology)
From the thread for Carded Terrapyre, Kara Thorne:
"In 2020, Kara met a horse rancher and poet, David, who would become her husband. Their only child, Melissa (a Terrapyre), was born in 2027. In 2043, David (a Human) died of cancer. In 2047, Melissa (Missy) was thrown from a horse while riding alone and died three days later."
Kara is haunted by dreams of her daughter and has convinced herself (perhaps falsely) that the Grail appeared and startled the chestnut horse Missy was riding. Missy was unable to speak in the few days she survived.
Missy had been seriously dating a Human, Dwight Stallone, Jr., since she was seventeen.
Missy knew she was a Terrapyre but Kara refused to speak with her about it, insisting that Missy live a "normal" life. Missy made Terrapyre friends and got her information this way. This rift caused tension between mother and daughter.
