Here are some images for the Prime Time Home. These are possible washing machine options. Do we want to decide on one (or more)? The first two are from a system called the Airwash System which makes use of negative ions to get clothes clean. It doesn't use water. This one below is called an iBasket (not "i" as in Internet, but "i" as in a single person). The iBasket automatically starts when it reaches a certain weight. All you have to do is throw your clothes in. This system uses water. It also has an odor remover. The Sfera is a small system which might be perfect for an apartment type situation. It, too, uses water. The link below goes to an article about Xeros, which is still in development, but seems a logical progression from the low-water front load washers that are currently available. news.cnet.com/8301-17938_105-10262347-1.htmlCris

The Prime Time kitchen will also focus on space-saving designs and minimal water usage. Here are some options. Weigh in! This first design was created by Cheng He, Liu Guang Kui and Zhou Dong from China. This design was created by Hieu Tranngoc and Hao Tran from Vietnam. This design is from Lebrun. This next design is a space saver, but the color... doesn't really work for me. Designer: Fevzi Karaman. This design from Whirpool "pays a lot of attention to reduce wastage by diverting 60% of the water and heat generated from itself to fuel other appliances or functions in the kitchen. For example, it uses the heat from the fridge compressor to produce hot water for the dish washer." (http://www.visualsupercomputing.com/future-kitchen-design.html) This one is award winning (Incheon International Design Competition) but to me it looks like a set from 2001: A Space Odyssey. It's called the Alight kitchen from Altera Design Studio. And this one is available now from Sebastien Poupeau. It's height adjustable, music enabled and web connected. I couldn't find a price though. I think you must have to contact them directly. And we all know what that means. (Really, really expensive) Cris

Jaeger-LeCoultre Atmos clocks have been around since the Jazz Age, and here's a new one designed for luxury brand Dunhill that looks like one of Dunhill's cigarette cases from the art deco days of the 30s. Just like its Atmos brethren, this mechanical marvel is powered by temperature changes, where a variation of one degree Celsius will power the clock for 48 hours. Welcome back everyone! It's so great to see us all returning again. I've been honing my player skills these past months and it's only fueled my desire to go nuts in the fiction universe.
I'd like to reopen the topic on Bands and Banders (the people who use them). I thought about adding this to the Terrapyre section but Caretakers and other humans who help Celestials can use them too so I thought this thread would be best.
Here are my questions:
If you're wearing a Band and you grab the Grail, what happens to the Band?
If you're wearing a Band and you're struck with a Celestial quantum level attack, what happens?
What things can go wrong with a Band? Like, could you accidently download a tank on your buddy?
Glad to be back!

Answers for my main funny man:
If you're wearing a Band and you grab the Grail, what happens to the Band?
Ah... a very good question. We recently had to tweak this. You have four seconds. That's it. Then the Band will short circuit. And it had to be a good (high qual) Band to make it four seconds. Off-brand Bands will die on contact... maybe even within twelve inches of the Grail.
If you're wearing a Band and you're struck with a Celestial quantum level attack, what happens?
Another good zinger. Pretty much all Celestial attacks occur on the quantum level. But this doesn't mean that they release nano nasties throughout the body. Some attacks are specific, limited and very localized. However, if a Celestial attack struck a Band, it would fry. If a Celestial grabbed a Band, it would fry. If a Celestial released anti-tech nanos into a Terrapyre wearing a Band, you could super size that fry.
What things can go wrong with a Band? Like, could you accidentally download a tank on your buddy?
What can go wrong with a Band? Well, let's play like this: You ever been in an IMVU 3D chat space? If you own the space, you can load in stuff. It loads in within a short distance of you. If your buddy is standign next to you... yeah, suddenly he and the tiger-striped couch are one. You have to have room to download. However, you cannot accidentally download something fused with your buddy. It might hit him on the head if he leapt into your "down zone" but it would never manifest sticking out of his chest, to be blunt.
What can go wrong? What can go wrong with a car or a handgun? The download could fail. The piece could be corrupted and not work properly. Go to Google, Erik, and type in "3D Warehouse". This will give you a link to Google's free collection of models for the program SketchUp. It's a P2P. So everyone uploads and writes their own descrips. Can you see very quickly how you may not always know *exactly* what you're downloading... unless you're downloading from your own private collection that you've either digitized yourself or collected, downloaded, and reuploaded into private storage space.
Helpful? Need more?
Bring it on, Farmer Egan!

Remember the moro orange we all talked about months back? I got to try one. It was odd (do you know what I mean by odd, B and L?) in that it was nothing like an orange to me. It had a rich, less acidic, almost earthy flavor. Also, the membrane was crisp white and the flesh was deep, deep red. When juice crept through the membrane it truly appeared like a bright drop of blood.
Just thought that was an interesting experience of the "blushes at night" fruit.

In terms of fast food, absolutely. I'm not sure about the restaurants (the independents). In my story for the battle anthology I used McBurger as the winner for fast food
In terms of other parts of the food industry, it could go so many ways. It could become government regulated or genre of food could be owned and controlled (like Mars has *all* candy... Kellogg has all grains... East Indian Spices has all herbs, spices, and salt... Sunkist has all fruit and veggies... Max has all meat LOL!)
Probably it would be a combination of the two -- government controlled and megacorp owned. Like how corps bid to provide wifi for entire cities. Megacorps would bid to provide food for an entire State or City-State. Maybe all the megacorps could provide all kinds of food but their prices on their specialty would be cheaper than anyone else. (So... you'd have States that may have average food but *amazing* chocolate.)
I do think, no matter how the provider network works out, that we'll see a difference in how things are packaged to condense space and prolong shelf-life.

Some advances have been made to metamaterial since we first posted about it: This website has a series of animated images demonstrating how a cloak would work. www.popsci.com/scitech/article/2009-01/real-cloaking-deviceAny aircraft covered in metamaterial could literally disappear from radar screens. Usually an aircraft is visible on radar in roughly the same shape and size; a stealth aircraft absorbs and reflects radar waves making the aircraft look significantly smaller than it really is and thus unremarkable; a metamaterial-covered craft would redirect all of the radar waves, thus making it disappear. Metamaterials also work with deflecting sonar (sound) waves to hide submarines. The same theory is used here. You would make an acoustic lens—material covered by a set of cavities which, when filled with water, work together to resonate with each other and refract the sound. The sound literally bends around the ship. The trick is getting the depth of the water, the depth of the cloak (the material filled with water) and the sound waves all in sync, otherwise the sound waves scatter and the cloak is only partially effective. For those hard scientists among us, here are the nuts and bolts: “The first metamaterial is described as like a nanoscale fishnet stacked with layers of silver and non-conducting magnesium fluoride. The second metamaterial, one-tenth the thickness of a sheet of paper, is formed using silver nanowires grown inside porous aluminum oxide; it can refract red light wavelengths as short as 660 nanometers.” (http://www.popsci.com/scitech/article/2008-08/invisibility-cloak-swirls-closer-reality) Scientists at Duke University have been working on this since 2006. Here are some additional links that will demonstrate the principle in action: Demonstration of a Cloaked Cylinder: www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ja_fuZyHDukDemonstration of Someone Wearing a Cloak: www.youtube.com/watch?v=vEm4EY4IWTIHow Invisibility Cloaks Work: science.howstuffworks.com/invisibility-cloak.htmhttp://www. youtube.com/watch?v=JKPVQal851U&NR=1 Cris

I think we could work metamaterial into MG3K... but we'd need to be careful so as not to make the Vanish Skill obsolete.

This reminded me of something not only Terrapyres would do, but also Humans like the ones in Band Together (in the Crusade Battle Anthology) It looks so freaking awesome! From planetoddity.com/ultra-violet-tattooing/ : UV tattoos or blacklight tattoos are tattoos made with a special ink that is only visible under a blacklight. They are particularly popular in the raver subculture. The tattoos can be completely invisible in normal light, although scarring from the tattoo machine in the application process may remain, and therefore still show. A UV tattoo becomes visible under blacklight, when it glows in colors ranging from white to purple, depending on the ink chosen. Colored ink is also available, where the ink is visible in normal light (as with a regular tattoo) but the ink will glow vividly under UV light. However, some UV inks are not as bright under normal light as normal tattoo ink and are considered not as vibrant. UV tattoo ink is not commonly known or used, as very few varieties of UV inks are approved for use in the US. It is also many times more expensive than regular tattoo inks. Some people have had reactions to ingredients in the ink, ranging from minor itching to dermatitis. Several UV inks are suspected carcinogens and allergens and at this time, no research has been conducted into the possible side effects of long term exposure. Some UV inks are known to yellow or turn slightly brown with sun exposure. UV inks are not as bright under normal light as normal tattoo inks, and do not blend during application, as normal inks do. Their effect will be dulled if regular ink is used on top of them. Therefore, for vibrant, high impact tattoos, normal ink should be used, allowed to heal, and then highlighted with UV inks. Only highly experienced tattooists should apply UV tattoos, and should have a blacklight within arm’s length of the tattoo chair. When applying white or clear UV ink, this blacklight should be turned on throughout the procedure. UV inking takes a little bit longer than normal, due to UV inks being a little thinner and harder to work with, and because the tattoo must be wiped and checked under a blacklight frequently during application. Also note that for non-colour based UV work, it is possible that outlines can become an issue. If the artist isn’t careful, any ink or other materials they use to outline their design can become part of the work. This is not normally an issue with standard tattoos as normal coloured ink covers this. However for fully hidden UV art, this can be a problem, as it will most likely not be even, or well distributed within the work, and reveal some of the art instead of being mostly hidden (scarring can always give away the art).

Brianne, your information on UV tattoos makes me think of the conversation about light graffiti and genetic light tagging. Do you think Terrapyres might get tattoos, say of the Terrapyre cross, that can only be seen by other Terrapyres? Like a pass code?
