okay, then - who is this guy? If there's going to be an anthology, why not discuss ideas here?
My first question - Luz, (or anyone else!) - do you know anything about Hylonome's siblings?

I think who Hylonome is, is very nicely sketched in Pahmela's stories. In "Immortal Dreaming" we see him as a master of many morphs but also somewhat clumsy socially, almost as if he seems young and unrefined. He is not a bumbling person but not the best of his class certainly.
In Pahmela's story in the "Crusade Battle Story" we see a deeper side of him and that story is my favorite, I think. We see that where he lacks in skills, he makes up for in passion and the capacity to love very, very deeply. He is seen as humble (something that is lost once he reaches Prime Time and is seen in "Immortal Dreaming") and patient. He is one of the most romantic characters in all the mythology, in my opinion, and we also see him in the story as resourceful.
But we also see that he is not very quick in terms of sensing others and instinct. He didn't realize the truth behind either of the major characters he interacts with (I am being careful not to reveal spoilers).
Though some reading the "Crusade" story might question Hylonome's altruism, I think he would swing to the extreme altruistic after that time.
That is my answer for who Hylonome is.
As for his past and his family, I am writing about these for the anthology and I am fascinated by what made the boy that would come to act as he does in the "Crusade" story. I decided that he is the third child of five with an elder sister and an elder (by a few seconds) twin brother. All his siblings excel very clearly at something but not Hylonome. Hylonome is solid and good and many things, but his parents want him to excel brilliantly at something and he does not.
His family is affluent and lives (as we already know from his name) in Lhanor which is much like the Washington and Oregon State coast. His mother is a successful businesswoman and Artistic Director of the Lhanor Civic Centre and his father is a singer and actor of acclaim.
I plan to explore his family dynamics and their lack of love and support for him (as seen through his eyes in close third person) and show how this leads to him searching for purpose with another, someone who clearly feels his is the best at what he does (as a royal sketch artist and musician).
Do you intend to write for the anthology, Di'Nay? If so and you will be writing about Hylonome's family, if you wish, I can send you my story when it is complete. All of his siblings will play roles in the story.

Luz, thank you so much for this information! I love the way you envision his past. Since I am writing Hylonome around the time of the story in the Crusade anthology, this is information I can place in his heart to help shape him a bit. I have a resource about Hylonome I found while researching Edo that I think might be helpful. I spent nearly a week straight researching the world surrounding Hylonome in my story. The city, the government during the time of Shogun Tokugawa Iemitsu (who is mentioned as the Shogun in the Crusade story), the artwork, etc. I figured Hylonome's time in the Crusade story was in the 1640s (if anyone disagrees, please let me know! The time of Shogun Iemitsu was full of change, particularly to the city, and my story uses the city quite a bit. I want to make sure it is accurate. I made this decision based mostly on the art. Ukiyo-e, the art style Hylonome mentions using (art stylized to represent the "Floating World" of Japan, the world of pleasure and the mentality of seeking pleasure) becomes extremely popular in Edo in about the year 1700, as does Kabuki (which is also mentioned in the story). Shogun Iemitsu dies, however, in 1651, so placing the Hylonome's story in the 1640s would put Hylonome's artwork and existence in the "Floating World" as close to the time of its popularity as possible.) I found this site invaluable when visualizing the city itself. If anyone else needs reference about Edo, this might help. It is about Edo during its height, in the late 1700s, but many of the sites were around during the mid 1600s. Obviously research further if you want to use any of the places mentioned, but this could give a great starting out point. It's very beginner friendly and detailed enough to inspire. And it's always fun when education is this interactive www.us-japan.org/edomatsu/

Launa, that is such an amazing link. I had also placed Hylonome in Edo during the 1940s because his lady's family is still in their height of rule. Can we decide an exact date for the "Crusade" story and then perhaps exact dates for all the other stories that follow? That would be very helpful. I think this photograph reminds me of what Lhanor might be like. Not the coast, but inland. This will be the location of a scene in my story. Luz

Luz, that picture is gorgeous. Makes me want to go to Lhanor I noticed in the new sourcebook that the Crusade story has been set in 1648. So, based on details in the story, the timeline for Hylonome's time in Edo would be: 1618-Hylonome comes to Edo (based on the line in the story that he had been perpetually 17 for 30 years. If he was doing other things in Edo before then, of course, that would not factor into this timeline.) 1643-Hylonome begins his time in his Hoshi morph. 1648-Crusade story (Hylonome ends his time in his Hoshi morph) If this is not true, just let me know. I'm just trying to help Also, looking at this timeline, I do want to add that over this thirty years a great many things change in Edo. The entire landscape of the city changes (since hills were demolished to fill the marshlands, at least one river was diverted, etc) It will be a dynamic time to write in That all being said, I'll add my dates into the project timeline. Launa's story (unnamed as of yet): 1643-1648

Lhanor looks a lot like Washington State, Luz Thank you for sharing the beautiful photo. Launa, your dates sound good. Let's run with those. Thank you for the research. Luz and I were talking today about calling the anthology "Hylonome: Katachi no Aoi" which translates to "Hylonome: Shape of Blue." In Japanese, the word aoi means both the color and unripe or inexperienced. The word katachi means both a physical shape and a thing taking shape, or developing. We thought this title would be a very nice touch. I would like to request that each author try to use the color blue or something blue symbolically in their story in some way. If anyone needs English words translated to Japanese written in English characters, this is called romaji and a great translation engine can be found here: www.lingvozone.com/main.jsp?language_id_from=64&language_id_to=23If writing on Hom, make sure to sprinkle your stories with Homidin words. Ask Cris for any new words you need. Do not use contractions. Last reminder (whew!), do not write in first person. Remember that (unless writing in narrative blocks in a comic) first person is not allowed in MG3K. That's it! Ready... set... write! Jennifer

I always wanted to post that many, many months ago, Summer created Kuroikin on IMVU and she does appear on a card in the ECG. I will get some pictures of the avatar posted along with PIDs if anyone wants to work with her for illustrations. Just as a nice coincidence, Summer had her clothed in blues. Other good facts to remember: Kuroikin (her first name) Tokugawa (her surname/family name) Kouu Yajuu (means, the Rain Monster or Rain Beast) is in Cris' story. It appears every five years when an artist boy disappears during a rain storm. Jennifer Edit: Some IMVU information about Hylonome in his Hoshi morph: Hair www.imvu.com/shop/product.php?products_id=37850Eyes www.imvu.com/shop/product.php?products_id=296164Shirt www.imvu.com/shop/product.php?products_id=656980Skintone www.imvu.com/shop/product.php?products_id=1378521Never decided: Realistic eyebrows Informal Pants Decided by only wishlisted to CelestialHylonome: Shoes Formal Tunic Bottom Please note that even in a Human Morph, Celestial eyes are solid -- no white or black. If in a morph, Hylonome would avoid meeting direct eye contact.

Oh! Thank you for this information I was starting to build Kuroikin myself and now all I'll have to do is pick a design I like (this one or the soon to be posted PIDs off the "taunt" card) and get her some nice kimono (I found some gorgeous, decently era-appropriate silk kimono) and varied hair designs. I found a different shot of the same Hylonome model with a clearer image of his mask and was designing from that. (For instance, did you know that she's holding a fan of peacock feathers? ) I'm sorry about all your computer crashes. Also, the note about the eyes is very helpful. Though... would this be too harmful to Celestials in human morph? The eyes are so noticed in so many cultures and I don't know of anything human that would make the eyes all one color. I'll go with it, of course, but how might a Celestial try to hide this that might work more effectively than avoiding eye contact? In earlier cultures, people might try to kill him for being supernatural or something or shun him.

Hi everyone! Launa asked:
A good question for many of us. The answer is this:
The Grail has never dropped in the Edo. Ever. Edo is within one of the regions that the Grail drops, but for some unexplained reason, it has never dropped in Edo itself. Strange but true.
Celestials are fascinated by this. Does Edo seems to have some kind of "protection" against the Grail? Over time, other "blind spots" like this will be discovered but in the 1640s Edo is the only one.
They send Hylonome as a single agent because they think the Edo people (the royalty and the commoners alike) may unknowingly be doing some arcane/alchemist stuff -- prayers, rituals, daily things -- that keep the Grail away. A lone agent, immersed in the culture, is their best chance of uncovering the truth.

You know, Launa, I'm not certain when the rule about the eyes came to be, but I do believe it is in the new sourcebook. It was to limit the power of Human morphs by forcing Celestials to wear full-eye contacts, sunglasses, avert their eyes, be more sneaking, etc. You may want to bring the topic up over in the Celestial section on the morph thread.
